Tyra Being Tyra

I know how much this class enjoys Tyra Banks and thinks that she is full of words of wisdom so I thought I would share this video I happened to come across of her. She first talks about how many different smiles that she knows and proceeds to tell the camera that not everyone can handle over 200 different kinds so she gave examples of 7. The most important smile being, as she claims, “the smile that can relate to everyone”. The video is basically another right for her to brag about herself for six minutes. There is a part about her discovery as a model, her feelings about adversity, and the doors that have been shut in her face. She then gives her thoughts about instant fame and her concern with the girls trying out for “America’s Next Top Model” and whether they just want to be famous or a model. She finally ends her segment talking about Martha Stewart, and her strive to one day have a brand like hers, so that when people hear it they immediately understand what it is about. At the end of this she makes herself sound like she wants to form an image of intelligence that shows her as something more than a model. But when the video begins with her talking for three minutes about 200 different kinds of smiles it makes it harder for people to take her seriously. I feel that she wants to change her image but she can’t let go of her fashion and model days. If she just focused on model and fashion advice I feel that she would be more respected, since people would know she is not trying to be something other than what she really is. She feels that she needs to change who she is as she takes that next step in her life, and it’s forcing her to mix her past and present together and is not adding to her image. Her obsession with helping people and trying to change them based on her own experiences also hinders her likeablility and image. I think Tyra just needs to be Tyra and not the next Oprah or Martha Stewart, and that is her just focusing and talking about herself, which is exactly what this video shows.
