Regarding our discussion back in October about Post-Feminism I couldn't help but think back to a COMM class I took last semester, COMM 395 Gender, Media and Communications, where we looked at the role the media plays in shaping gender identities. In the latter half of that course we looked at post-feminism and discussed similarly what we talked about in this course, how there is this shift away from feminism doctrines to a return to feminist attitudes of the 1950’s. My teacher brought in a new PSA that’s goal was to describe what post-feminism is, as we discussed in great detail how the majority of the population throws around the word, but does not truly use it correctly and does not really know it meaning, I have included it below:

What I find most interesting about the PSA is that in its attempt to address the issue, it does everything but. It uses big stars to gets the audiences’ attention yet none of them really define post-feminism. I couldn’t help but think about this PSA because as I garnered from class this is a topic that still has so much controversy and uncertainty surrounding it. As proven by the three shows we looked at, there are still different levels of interpretation around post-feminism and how it is viewed in the media. Personally I think that whatever the interpretation these shows like “Girls Next Door” and “Nurse Jackie” are doing more for helping to showcase a post-feminist world than this PSA is.
